About Humidity Helper

Humidity Helper is an independent guide to humidity, condensation, damp and mould in UK homes — and to choosing and using a dehumidifier when you need one.

Why this site exists

Damp is one of the most common problems in British homes. Our housing stock is old, our weather is wet, many of us dry washing indoors for half the year, and with high energy prices plenty of rooms are kept cooler than they used to be. The result is streaming windows, musty wardrobes and black mould — and a lot of confusing, product-first advice online.

We wanted a site that starts with the cause, explains the free fixes honestly, and only then talks about products where they genuinely help.

How we write our guides

  • Cause first. Every guide explains why a problem happens before it suggests what to buy.
  • UK context. We write for UK homes: solid and cavity walls, flats and terraces, bathrooms without extractor fans, UK wiring rules, Ofgem price caps and renters’ rights.
  • No invented testing. We don't claim to have lab-tested products we haven't, and we don't publish made-up star ratings or rankings. When we recommend a type of product, we explain what to look for and why.
  • Reliable sources. Where health, legal or energy information matters, we base it on official sources such as the NHS, GOV.UK and Ofgem, and link to them.
  • Kept up to date. Each guide shows when it was published or last updated.

What we're not

Our guides are general information, not a professional survey. If you have structural damp, a leak, or health concerns about mould, please speak to a qualified surveyor, tradesperson or your GP. If you rent, your landlord is usually responsible for repairs and ventilation — report problems to them in writing.

How the site is funded

Humidity Helper is free to read. Some guides include Amazon affiliate links, always marked “paid link”. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never affects what we recommend — read our affiliate disclosure for details.
